University of Florida freshman A.C. Leonard was arrested on a simple domestic battery charge, police said.
Coach Will Muschamp later announced Leonard was suspended from team activities.
"This behavior will not will be tolerated and A.C. has been suspended from team activities at this time,'' Muschamp said in a release from the school late Thursday. "I certainly don't condone this type of behavior - it is not what we expect from the University of Florida football program.''
His arrest was the 10th involving a Gators football player since Muschamp took over as head coach last January.
Gainesville police said the 20-year-old tight end got into an argument with his girlfriend Wednesday night.
According to a police report, Leonard shoved the woman, causing her to fall to the ground and hit her head on a dog cage. She told police Leonard told her to take her belongings and leave the apartment they shared.
The arrest report indicated that Leonard grabbed the woman by both feet and pulled her out of the apartment when she refused to leave.
Police said the woman had a large abrasion on her left forearm and a smaller one on her right elbow.
He was arrested about 7 p.m. Wednesday and later released on his own recognizance Thursday by Alachua County Judge Tom Jaworski.
Leonard, of Jacksonville, was also ordered to have no contact with the woman, who he had been dating for 17 months.
Leonard caught eight passes for 99 yards last season in limited duty.
