Cheer up, Tampa.
It appears this side of Tampa Bay isn't as depressing as St. Petersburg.
Men's Health Magazine has published yet another poll, this one looking for the most depressing city in the United States.
St. Petersburg won the honor, beating out Detroit and Memphis as the saddest of America's 100 major cities. Tampa was ranked fourth.
Sunshine and popular beaches don't appear to merit gold stars in this survey. The magazine reached its sad conclusions by calculating national government suicide and unemployment rates. Add to that the percentage of local households using antidepressant medications and surveys that asked people how often they felt depressed.
Other than in the happiest city in the poll, Honolulu, merry people seem to reside in far colder climes. Among the most cheerful spots: Manchester, N.H.; Fargo, N.D.; Omaha, Neb.; and Boston.
Wonder whether this survey would be different if taken in February?
