PLANT CITY - Four prisoners were taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries this morning after a pickup hit their transport van, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Larry Coggins said.
The Polk County Prisoner Transport van sustained $10,000 damage after it was struck in the rear by a Isuzu pickup at 6:30 a.m. on County Road 30, just south of Old Hopewell Road.
Both vehicles were heading south on C.R. 39. The van slowed down behind traffic when the pickup truck slammed into it, Coggins wrote in news release.
The driver of the pickup, Michael Bowen, 35, of Lithia, was cited for following too closely, the report states.
