TAMPA - An autopsy will help police determine whether to pursue a criminal investigation into the death of a 41-year-old woman, officials said.
Ashley Frey's husband of two years, Kenneth Odom, found her dead inside their Sulphur Springs apartment at 1610 E. Linden Ave. about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Tampa police have called the death both "suspicious" and "unexplained," but did not elaborate.
"We're working with the medical examiner to determine the cause of death. That will determine which way our investigation will go," police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said today.
The medical examiner found no obvious signs of trauma and is awaiting the results of toxicology tests, which could take weeks, Davis said.
Frey had worked as a hairdresser and also as a singer, according to her father, Edward Frey, 73. He went to work at Unique Hair Place in New Tampa today "to keep my mind active," he said.
"Numb. Just numb all over," Edward Frey said when asked how he was coping.
Frey said his daughter had no enemies and seemed to have no serious problems.
"Everybody loved her," he said.
He last talked to his daughter Tuesday after his regular bowling game, he said.
"She'd help anybody she could. She had an extra dime, she'd give it," he said, then began crying.
