TAMPA - With the help of emergency medical dispatcher Cheryl Richter, a 19-year-old woman safely gave birth at home this year, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

For the first time since Janiyah Tignor was born, the child's family will tour the Tampa Fire Rescue 911 Communications Center and meet the dispatcher.

They'll arrive at 4 p.m. today at the center, 2920 E. Henry Ave.

On Feb. 15, Diana Donaldson called 911 because her pregnant 19-year-old daughter, Jacquell, was in labor, a Tampa Fire Rescue news release states. While paramedics were en route to Donaldson's North Tampa home, Richter offered instructions on how to deliver the baby.

Diana Donaldson helped deliver her granddaughter.

This is National Telecommunicator's Week. Each year, the week is set aside to honor the important work done by 911 dispatchers.
