Privatization Vote Could Cost 27 Tampa Custodians Their Jobs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

TAMPA - Several custodians pleaded with the city council this morning to save their jobs.

The city council is scheduled to decide today whether to turn janitorial services over to a private firm.

If the council goes that route, 27 custodians will lose their jobs.

The move is expected to save the city about $430,000 a year.

One custodian, Robert Tracy, 54, is worried about losing his job and health care.

"They way they're doing this is not the proper way," Tracy said. "I cannot walk out there and start all over."
