Business Groups Seek To Stop Guns At Work Law

»  Comments | Post a Comment

TALLAHASSEE - Florida business groups want a new law allowing workers to keep guns locked in their cars to be stopped from taking effect until a legal challenge is settled.

The Florida Chamber and Florida Retail Federation submitted paperwork Thursday asking a judge for a preliminary injunction in their case against the state.

The law is to take effect July 1.

Under the law, businesses cannot prohibit employees or customers from keeping a legally owned gun locked inside their cars.

Supporters of the law say people have a constitutional right to carry firearms and should be able to keep guns in their cars for protection. Business owners have argued they have a constitutional right to set the rules on their own property.
