Crist's Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Sarasota

»  Comments | Post a Comment

After an emergency landing at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport this afternoon, Gov. Charlie Crist took another plane bound for Miami.

Crist flew from Bushnell this afternoon en route to a news conference in Miami, where he was scheduled to announce a change in the deal to buy U.S. Sugar and restore the Everglades.

The plane purportedly had been repaired last week after a generator stopped working, Crist said. He said the pilot decided to land in Sarasota at about 1:30 because the plane started to make a humming noise similar to the sound it made last week.

Crist said the plane also was out of oil.

While his staff scrambled to find another plane for Crist, he spent his time at the Hilton Garden Inn across the street from the airport.

"It's always beautiful in Sarasota. I had the opportunity to make phone calls and catch up with things with the office staff," Crist said as he was getting ready to board the new plane.

He would not comment about the Everglades deal, except to say that the news conference had been rescheduled to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
