CSX Railroad Crossing Repairs Set In Palm River

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Drivers won't be annoyed by loose rails at Palm River railroad crossings much longer.

As part of CSX railroad's maintenance program, the company will replace the rails at five crossings.

Patrick Murray, a Hillsborough County spokesman, said the repairs will eliminate the noisy, bumpy experience motorists have each time they cross the worn tracks.

However, the improvements come with a price. Palm River motorists will have to endure about two weeks of detours while CSX workers replace the tracks.

Crossing repairs are scheduled to begin Wednesday on Palm River Road between 50th Street and Maydell Drive. That crossing will be closed until Oct. 22.

"The roads will be open up to about 50 feet of the tracks," Murray said. "But drivers won't be able to go any further, so we've established detours for all the roads."

The detour for Palm River Road will be 58th Street to Causeway Boulevard to 50th Street.

From Oct. 21 through 27, CSX crews will repair track crossings on St. Paul Street between 50th Street and 54th Street, Santa Fe Road between 50th Street and its dead end, and Hartford Street between 50th Street and 54th Street.

The detour for St. Paul is Hartford Street to 50th Street to Causeway Boulevard to 54th Street. There is no detour for Santa Fe because the railroad tracks are at the end of the road. The detour for Hartford Street is 50th Street to Causeway Boulevard to 54th Street.

Railroad crews will complete repairs with the crossing at 16th Avenue South between 50th Street and 58th Street. The road will be closed Oct. 22 to 27. Drivers can detour using 58th Street to Causeway Boulevard to 50th Street.
