Grant to aid troops sent to combat zone

With President Barack Obama's recent announcement to deploy more troops to Afghanistan, Hillsborough County wants to remind local soldiers and their families about a grant that could ease their financial burdens.

The Active Military Combat Grant is available to members of the military who were deployed to a combat zone for more than 45 days in a calendar year. The grant provides up to $1,500 to pay for property taxes on the troops' homesteaded homes in both incorporated and unincorporated Hillsborough County.

Eligible members of the military have up to two years to apply for the grant, which was established in 2006.
