Donate blood next month and you could be headed to Disney World.
Florida Blood Services announced today it's participating in Walt Disney World's "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" promotion. The Orlando theme park giant is offering a single-day park voucher, valued at $79, to the first 1 million people who volunteer with pre-approved agencies.
Appointments must be made for the blood, platelet and plasma donations at designated donation sites on weekend days in January. The sites are in Tampa, Brandon, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Bradenton, Hudson, and Wesley Chapel.
Appointments will be accepted beginning Friday via the Disney Website, www.disneyparks.com, said Tirzah Zielinski, blood center promotions coordinator. Once registered on that site with Florida Blood Services, donors can confirm their appointment at the designated donation site. People not eligible to give blood can also participate by volunteering with the agency.
It's unclear how many people will get passes, which are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. However, there are a plethora of opportunities to donate blood during the weekends in January. For example, the Brandon service center can take 425 donations during that time period, Zielinski said.
Florida Blood Services will be open on Friday to confirm the appointments.
Florida Blood Services is the area's primary blood bank, serving dozens of Tampa Bay area hospitals. Donors must be 16 years or older, and weigh 110 pounds or more. For more information about donations, and for a list of approved locations, visit www.fbsblood.org.
