Hundreds of people are expected to converge on Lowry Park today for the Haitian Heritage Festival, a free event that celebrates the culture and highlights the needs of people from the tiny Carribbean nation.
The family-friendly gathering will feature games for children, face painting, live music, dancers and a cultural play by a local acting troupe.
Attendees can get information on immigration, refugee assistance and initiatives to help those affected by the recession.
Health care professionals will offer screenings for breast cancer, diabetes and blood pressure; prostate cancer education; children's physicals; and dental screenings.
