A review team appointed by Hillsborough elections supervisor Phyllis Busansky released a list of recommendations Tuesday that Busansky said will prevent election night foul-ups that delayed voting results last year.
Busansky said the recommendations will not cost taxpayers additional money and can be implemented by existing employees under new management.
"We're not going to spend more money; we're just going to do it better," Busansky said. "We needed to understand what went wrong."
Busansky appointed the team soon after taking office in January to identify problems that delayed voting results in both the primary and general elections last year. The committee blamed technical failures, poor management and insufficient support from the voting machine vendor for the problems.
The team recommended that the supervisor's information technology team be strengthened and that the county's voting machine vendor, Premier Elections Solutions, provide better support during elections.
The elections office also needs to rigorously test equipment and communications systems before elections, the review team said, as well as provide more-disciplined management.
Tim Bobanic, a member of the review team, is Busansky's new information technology director and will oversee improvements in the computer communications systems that failed last year. He and the office's technical staff are already testing new software for the voting machines.
Busansky said she has already talked to Premier about sending more people during elections.
