All lanes of North Dale Mabry Highway are expected to be open in time for rush hour traffic this morning.
Tampa Electric officials anticipated work on damaged power poles along the highway in Lutz to be completed by midnight, spokesman Rick Morera said Monday.
Nine of the poles snapped Sunday and another six were damaged by a storm with winds that may have reached as high as 50 mph. The area had been soaked with rain for 10 days, which may have made it easier for wind gusts to push the poles, according to the National Weather Service.
TECO also expected to return power to 12 customers, mostly commercial users, by midnight, Morera said. Many of the businesses were closed Monday for Memorial Day.
The downed power lines closed portions of busy Dale Mabry on Sunday and Monday. The road was one lane in each direction from Van Dyke to Lutz Lake-Fern roads.
Tampa Electric crews worked day and night Sunday and Monday to restore power to more than 5,000 people in the Lutz area, near the Hillsborough and Pasco lines, who lost power. Most people had power back Sunday night.
