The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is the latest state agency to review a controversial 1 percent pay raise that Hillsborough County Administrator Pat Bean and County Attorney Renee Lee approved for themselves.
County Commissioner Kevin Beckner said Wednesday he sent documents provided by a citizens' group to the FDLE.
Beckner said the FDLE agreed to look at the documents but that the agency is not in a full investigative mode.
Community activist George Niemann said he filed ethics complaints against Bean and Lee in September and that the Florida Ethics Commission told him it is reviewing his allegations.
Commissioner Mark Sharpe asked for yet a third review of Bean's actions by an outside lawyer or the clerk of the circuit court's office, but the board agreed with Commissioner Rose Ferlita's advice to review documents supplied by Bean and decide her future later.
Bean and Lee say they were nominated for the raises in 2007 because they helped save the county money.
Bean said she asked Lee for a legal opinion on whether she could accept the raise and that Lee said she could.
The women have since said they will repay the money.
