The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority is expected to begin service April 12 on the county's first community-based bus transportation, which would allow people near new routes through Brandon and through Wimauma and Sun City Center to call for pickup at their homes. HARTFlex will operate along a designated route with official stops. Vehicles will go up to three-quarters of a mile from the designated route to pick up customers who call to request a ride from seven days to three hours before the desired trip time.
The van-based service will be open to all passengers. Fares will be 85 cents for a one-way trip or $1.85 for a one-day pass. Passengers connecting to other HART routes will be able to purchase local and express day passes from the operator. The service will operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in Brandon. The HART staff will review the pilot project and recommend possible expansion of the service in November.
