The popular radio show "A Prairie Home Companion," with host Garrison Keillor and musical guest Elvis Costello, will be broadcast live in select movie theaters Thursday.
Movie screens that will carry the show in the Tampa Bay area include AMC Regency 20 in Brandon, Regal Citrus Park 20, Cobb Grove 16 in Wesley Chapel, Lakeside Village 18 in Lakeland, and AMC Woodlands Square 20 in Oldsmar.
For more than 35 years, Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" has been broadcast on more than 600 public radio stations.
It has a loyal audience of more than 4 million listeners.
Thursday's performance will originate at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minn., and will be broadcast live in high-definition exclusively to movie theaters across the United States and Canada, a first for the show.
The two-hour presentation begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale at www.ncm.com/Fathom. Adult admission is $22.
His scheduled guests include Costello, sibling singers Jearlyn and Jevetta Steele, singer Heather Masse and folk duo Robin & Linda Williams.
Also on hand will be regulars such as Sue Scott and Tim Russell, sound-effects wizards Tom Keith and Fred Newman, and the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band led by keyboardist, composer and arranger Richard Dworsky and featuring guitarist Pat Donohue, percussionist Peter Johnson and bassist Gary Raynor.
The program will be taped and shown in theaters again Feb. 9.
