Hundreds of skateboarders descended on downtown Tampa on Monday afternoon to bring awareness to their sport and help local charity Boards for Bros get decks into the hands of kids who might not be able to afford them.
Similar "Wild in the Streets" events took place Sunday in London, Madrid and Montreal. Tampa's event fell on Go Skateboarding Day. "It's about realizing that kids, when they get together in groups, have power and can do good things with their passion for skateboarding," said Mark Waters of Emerica, the event's organizer.
Participants skated from the Channel District, down Franklin Street to the Bro Bowl, a local hot spot at North Orange Avenue and East Laurel Street, where a freestyle skate was held in the concrete pools.
