Tickets to the upcoming Lady Antebellum concert at Ruth Eckerd Hall in September sold out in about two hours earlier this summer. But you can see them for free tonight on ABC's "CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock."
Beginning at 8 p.m., this special is a three-hour celebration of country music that isn't connected to an awards show.
Filmed in June at the Country Music Association's annual summer festival in Nashville, it features performances by more than 20 country music acts, including rising stars Lady Antebellum (Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott).
The special also will feature the network TV debut of Taylor Swift's new single "Mine" that she performed at a private concert during the festival. The song is the first single from her upcoming album, "Speak Now," which will be released Oct. 25.
Tim McGraw is the host. Other performers include Trace Adkins, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Uncle Kracker, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Kellie Pickler, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Billy Currington, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Justin Moore, Blake Shelton, Josh Turner and Zac Brown Band.
Launched in 1972, this annual four-day summer festival draws more than 65,000 fans and features more than 100 hours of live music and 30 hours of autograph sessions.
In addition to concert footage and performances at various clubs across Nashville, cameras recorded a day at the festival with Lady Antebellum as the reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year performed at a fan club party and interacted with festival attendees during an unplanned appearance in the Fan Fair Exhibit Hall.
This year's CMA Music Festival became a "Grand Re-Opening of Nashville" after the city and surrounding areas experienced a devastating flood in May.
The flood, the recovery efforts and the coming together of the Nashville community to help its fellow citizens will be spotlighted in the television special. CMA is donating 50 percent of this year's net proceeds from the festival to flood relief. Other proceeds go to help Nashville schools.
POPPYCOCK: Finally, our long summer nightmare is nearing an end. Tonight "America's Got Talent" gets down to just 10 finalists.
This season, which seems to have stretched on forever, has given viewers one of the most unusual contestants in the show's history - Prince Poppycock.
This randy dandy has been called a male Lady Gaga and the Adam Lambert of "America's Got Talent." He's the creation of flamboyant performance artist John Quale, who dresses as if he stepped out of a French Baroque painting (pantaloons, powdered wig and pasty makeup).
Poppycock may be the most innovative act since Pee-wee Herman. And he can sing. His most impressive performance was his version of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," which got a standing ovation from the judges.
Quale is a 32-year-old sales clerk originally from Virginia, but not much else is known about him.
No matter who wins "America's Got Talent," Quale's Poppycock will probably have an afterlife. He's already launched his own website. Could a reality show be next?
