As the first step of a project to add art to an industrial stretch of south Ybor City, a local artist and 14 of his students will paint a 35-by-360-foot mural on an Adamo Drive building.
The mural depicting the culture and vitality of Ybor City and Tampa will be painted on the side of the Fabricated Products building at Adamo and 17th Street.
Artist Michael Parker, who is teaching a course at Hillsborough Community College's Ybor City campus, invites people to attend a workshop Saturday at which he will speak about painting skills, color and turning a sketch into a mural.
Ybor City resident Dave Scott for two years has worked to get the project under way. Funding comes from $20,000 in donations and a $10,000 contribution from the city. Scott said he expects the mural to be completed in June.
Later, another local artist is expected paint a mural on a building on Adamo.
Those interested in attending the workshop may contact Parker at (813) 846-2000.
