Amtrak will celebrate its 40th anniversary in Tampa by bringing its Exhibit Train to Union Station on Saturday and Sunday.
The free exhibit will display vintage rail cars and memorabilia, including advertising, attendants' uniforms, dining car menus and dinnerware, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
Children's train-themed activities based on the "Chuggington Depot" animated television series on Disney Junior will be offered.
Amtrak will sell 40th anniversary merchandise aboard the train, including a commemorative book and documentary DVD.
The Exhibit Train includes two baggage cars; a sleeper car built in 1950 for the Union Pacific Railroad with 10 roomettes and six double-bedrooms that was converted into a crew dormitory on long-distance trains; a café car converted into a gift shop and display car for exhibits; a non-powered locomotive control unit; and a P40, a 4,000 horsepower locomotive that pulls the Exhibit Train.
Tampa Union Station also will host its centennial celebration and annual train day on May 12.
