The University of South Florida's No. 2 ranking and its realistic hopes of playing for a national championship were dashed with Thursday night's 30-27 loss at Rutgers.
USF (6-1, 1-1 in the Big East Conference) is still very much alive for winning the league and qualifying for a major bowl bid. If unbeaten Connecticut loses tonight against Louisville, seven of the league's eight teams will be tied with one conference defeat.
