BARTOW - A Polk County detention deputy was arrested today, accused of making unwanted advances toward a female inmate, the Polk sheriff's office reported.
Nathan Lashley, 38, faces charges of battery and soliciting another to commit lewdness. Both are misdemeanors, "but still unacceptable," said sheriff's spokeswoman Donna Wood.
Detectives began investigating several days ago after a female inmate said Lashley made unwanted advances toward her, Wood said.
During a taped interview with Lashley, he acknowledged touching the woman against her will and also to giving her a note that indicated he "wanted to see her body," Wood said.
Lashley, 38, was arrested without incident at work, and has been suspended without pay pending termination, Wood said. He was hired August 28, 2000.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said Lashley was arrested at home.
