LARGO - Police have identified the man in a motorized wheelchair killed when a sport utility vehicle struck him as he was crossing Missouri Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.
Jack Schaffer, 84, of 1807 Lady Mary Drive, Clearwater, was killed when a 1997 GMC Sierra driven by Angus T. Davis III of Clearwater struck him about 2:15 p.m.
Police say the Sierra was northbound in the median when it struck Schaffer in an area that does not appear to have a crosswalk.
The driver of the vehicle and two passengers were not seriously injured in the crash.
The investigation was ongoing.
