TAMPA - Police are investigating the slaying of 36-year-old Claude Lee Kegler, who was found stabbed to death Sunday in the bedroom of his Temple Crest apartment.
Detectives are searching for Kegler's white, four-door 1994 Ford Taurus and a man who met with him Saturday night.
Tampa police Lt. Chuck Stanbro said Kegler's brother, Shawn, discovered the body and called police. The two brothers shared apartment B at 3826 River Hills Drive.
Stanbro said Shawn Kegler gave the following account of what happened:
On Saturday night, Shawn Kegler recalled his brother met with a man who came over to their apartment around 11 p.m. Shawn Kegler then went to bed and didn't hear anything else.
He described the man as being black, in his late-teens or early 20s, between 5 feet, 7 and five feet, 10 inches tall, and wearing a white basketball jersey and baggy black pants.
Shawn Kegler woke up at 6:45 a.m. and noticed the front door was unlocked, which was odd because his brother was "fanatical" about making sure the door was locked.
Looking outside, he also noticed his brother's car was gone. After going back to bed, Shawn Kegler awoke again around 8:30 a.m. and saw his brother's car was still missing.
He opened his brother's bedroom door and found him on the floor.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at (813) 231-6130.
