BAGHDAD -- Army Staff Sgt. Donald J. Harris II of Zephyrhills was awarded the Bronze Star Medal at an award ceremony in Baghdad.
Harris, 37, is close to finishing a 15-month tour of duty as a vehicle convoy commander and platoon leader. This is his second tour.
Harris graduated from Zephyrhills High School in 1988. Harris and his family are stationed in Fort Carson, Colo.
The Bronze Star is awarded to any person whodistinguishes himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States or while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force.
