TAMPA -- The left lane of southbound West Shore Boulevard closed tonight as work crews began repairs on a damaged Interstate 275 overpass.
The lane is expected to open at 5 a.m. Thursday, Florida Department of Transportation officials said. The lane will again close 9 p.m. Thursday and repairs are expected to be complete by 5 a.m. Friday morning, officials said.
The damage occurred after an excavator loaded onto a truck hit the overpass Tuesday morning, said FDOT spokeswoman Kristen Carson.
The excavator struck the interior bridge beams about 9:30 a.m., causing minor concrete damage to six of the beams, Carson said.
Crews also dealt with a minor diesel spill from the crash but the fuel did not get into any waterways, Tampa Fire Rescue officials said.
