Motorcyclist Dies In St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG - A 22-year-old motorcyclist from St. Petersburg was killed Wednesday night when his 2001 Suzuki motorcycle collided with a car on Roosevelt Boulevard, police say.

Douglas W. Cozzola Jr. of 310 81st Ave. N. was pronounced dead at Bayfront Medical Center just before midnight, about two hours after the collision.

Cozzola was riding at high speed on Roosevelt Boulevard when a 2002 Honda Accord turned in front of him at the entrance to the northbound lanes of Interstate 275, Traffic Homicide Investigator Mike Roberts says in a written statement.

The driver of the Accord, Haleigh E. Doggette, 25, of 5352 Baywater Drive, Tampa, was not charged. An investigation was ongoing.

Alcohol was not a factor, Robertson said.
