SAFETY HARBOR A pit bull-mix that attacked a 6-year-old boy Sunday will be put down according to the guidelines of a Pinellas County ordinance that regulates dangerous dogs, animal services officials said today.
Two-year-old Tucker will be euthanized after a quarantine period of 10 days, said Linda Britland, the field enforcement officer for Pinellas County Animal Services.
Dunedin Doggie Rescue relinquished ownership of the dog today, Britland said.
On Sunday night, 6-year-old Tydal Sugar and his mother were at a Safety Harbor park with the dog. The boy stepped into an anthill, and when he began screaming and yelling, Tucker attacked him, authorities said.
Animal Services investigators have been told Tucker was on a leash and was pulled off the boy. The animal managed to get to the child again, however, inflicting more bites, Britland said.
Tydal was bit in the shoulder and head, Pinellas sheriff's deputies said, and was released from All Children's Hospital after undergoing treatment.
