New Leads Found In '82 Case Of Missing Girl

Before Caylee Anthony, Adam Walsh and Jennifer Odom, the Bay Area was captivated by the story of Jennifer Marteliz.

The 7-year-old disappeared more than a quarter-century ago, and the Tampa Police Department has kept her file open.

Now, her family says there may be new leads in the case.

Jennifer's mother says detectives have recently opened a cold case investigation into the disappearance of her daughter.

"They are working also with the FBI, so I'm very, very excited about this," Kathy Longo says.

Longo says police detectives recently brought her into their office to ask about her memories from the time her daughter vanished, but they are giving her few details about the renewed interest in the investigation.

"They're not telling me. They said it's easier for us not to tell you and you get all excited and all your hopes are up and it's nothing. So, I think they have something, but they're just not telling me," Longo says.

Tampa police acknowledge they are taking another look at the case.

Detective O. P. Parish, who worked on the Marteliz case for 25 years, is retiring, says police spokeswoman Andrea Davis.

"While Detective Parrish cared deeply about the investigation, having a new set of eyes and a fresh look at the investigation may be beneficial," Davis says.

For more than 25 years, Longo has kept her own file, hired private investigators to track down leads and even sought help from psychics to do anything she can to find her missing daughter.

In fall 1982, Jennifer was walking home from school in Tampa with a friend when she went missing. At the time, Jennifer was living with her father.

Over the years, police have chased hundreds of leads but found no trace of Jennifer.

Now her family has produced a movie to tell Jennifer's story. To make "She Could Be You," the family hired professional actors and a production team and financed the film on their own.

Kathy Longo says she has one objective: "To bring Jennifer home."

The movie is complete, and the family says several distribution companies are interested.
