Cut Garbage Time In Half

Regarding "City May Raise Garbage Rates" (front page, Feb. 14):

Instead of raising fees for garbage collection, I would propose that the city of Tampa could save millions by simply cutting back collection to one day a week. I've lived in a small town, a small city and the seventh-largest city in the country and have never had garbage collected twice a week in any of these locations. Why do we need to collect trash twice a week in Tampa?

It would seem to me we must produce the same amount of garbage as any other group of citizens. If we produce more, maybe we should encourage residents to recycle more or just be less wasteful.

I think this idea stinks!
