Sarasota deputies have arrested a man they say used a hammer to kill a 76-year-old woman and then stole her car.
Authorities arrested Harold Dean Wallwin, 47, on Sunday after a hit-and-run crash in Mary Blake's car, said Sarasota County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sarah Kenniff.
Deputies say Wallwin went to Blake's home at 4526 S. Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota on Saturday to clean her garage and beat her to death with a hammer he found in the garage.
Wallwin left, returning later to a shower and stole groceries and her car, Kenniff said. His address is listed as "at-large."
Deputies say Wallwin admitted to killing Blake and stealing her car when the hit-and-run crash happened.
He faces charges of premeditated murder and auto theft and one count each of burglary and petty theft. His is being held without bail at Sarasota County Jail.
