WINTER HAVEN - Polk County sheriff's deputies hope new information will help them find the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a woman in a wheelchair last week. They tentatively have identified the car as a light blue or silver early to mid-1990s Toyota Corolla or Camry.
The sheriff's office said that Piedad Macedo, 56, was hit by the vehicle on First Street West as she either sat in her wheelchair or pushed it during her daily visit to an herbal healer. The crash happened between 5 and 6 a.m. June 3.
A passer-by found her and the wheelchair beside the road about 6:30 a.m., the sheriff's office said.
Deputies said the suspect's car should have damage to its right front quarter panel.
