Woman Says 'Pimp' Kept Her Son For Money

TAMPA - A woman called Tampa police early this morning saying her "pimp" had control of her 1-year-old son.

She told police that she initially allowed Odonga Kenya Rush, also known as John C. Hayes, to babysit for her child while she worked.

She was supposed to pick up the child at 6 p.m Friday, according to a police report.

Instead she called the police at 2:11 a.m. today claiming that during telephone and text correspondences, Rush told her "she would have to work for him and get $300 or she could not have the child back."

Officers went to Rush's residence at 1917-A Mulberry St., but no one responded when they knocked, the report says.

So the officers hid nearby for about two hours, and when the victim approached the residence, Rush emerged and was detained, and the child was returned to the victim, the report says.

Rush also is a fugitive, with an existing warrant out of DuPage County, Ill., the police report says.

He was arrested at 4:30 a.m. today and was being held without bond at Orient Road Jail.

Rush is charged with interference with child custody, extortion, false imprisonment of a child, giving a false name to a law enforcement officer and with being a fugitive, the report says.
