5 People In Tampa Charged With Cruelty To Animals

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Five Tampa residents who kept almost a dozen dogs in unsanitary conditions - denying them medical treatment and allowing them to live in their own feces - were arrested Saturday morning, deputies say. Each was slapped with four felony charges of animal cruelty and an additional 11 misdemeanor charges of improper confinement of an animal.

The Hillsborough sheriff's office made the arrests after complaints came to Hillsborough County Animal Services about the smell coming from the home.

The arrests took place at 3015 73rd St. N. Inside, deputies say, they found the dogs confined in rooms where there was no water and no electricity. "The dogs were living in their own excrement," according to the arrest report.

Four dogs needed immediate medical attention and were taken to Florida Veterinary Specialists, the report said. Deputies suspected one dog might have a broken leg, as one of its back legs had swollen to twice its normal size.

Craig Alan Overton, 20; Cindy Pendleton Overton, 45; Irven Jay Brend, 39; Cedric Leon Wilson, 24; and Sheila Overton, 18; were arrested, according to county records. All listed their address as 3015 73rd St. N., except for Wilson, who had an address of 4410 E. 25th Ave.

All were being held at Orient Road Jail on Saturday. Bond for each was set at $13,500.
