A 20-year-old bicyclist from St. Petersburg died in a crash with a 2004 Jeep on Wednesday night in Pinellas County.

Bicyclist Michael Franklin Bentley was taken to Bayfront Medical Center but later died due to his injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 9:40 p.m. on Gandy Boulevard west of Brighton Bay Boulevard. Jeep driver Lily Elizabeth Lusty, 40, wasn't injured.

Both vehicles were heading east on Gandy in the right-turn lane. Lusty didn't see the bicycle in the lane and struck the bike from the rear, causing Bentley to be thrown onto her Jeep's hood and from there to the pavement, troopers say.

No charges have been filed, although an investigation is ongoing, troopers say.
