Urban landscapes are often viewed as unwelcoming scenes of concrete, asphalt, metal and glass. But it doesn't have to be that way, some city officials say.
In recent years, cities across the country have committed plots of land for agricultural projects aimed at turning trash-strewn vacant properties into bountiful gardens.
To that aim, the city council will hold a special workshop today to discuss ways Tampa might be able to reconnect with the natural world through urban gardening.
The proposal is being pushed by City Councilwoman Mary Mulhern.
The workshop begins at 2 p.m. at city hall, 315 E. Kennedy Blvd.
