A 61-year-old Tampa man died this morning when he was struck by a 2006 Nissan sport utility vehicle, troopers say.
At 6:32 a.m., the Nissan was heading west in the turn lane on State Road 574 at Williams Road when it struck pedestrian Carl M. Ghee, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Ghee was coming from a Subway restaurant on the intersection's southwest corner. He was near or in the crosswalk on the intersection's west side, troopers say. The pedestrian was struck by the Nissan's front right fender and "propelled over 100 feet west," coming to rest in the right turn lane.
Ghee died at the scene.
The Nissan's driver, Michael D. Williams, 57, of Brandon, wasn't injured.
An investigation is ongoing.
