Shaken baby dies in Bradenton; boyfriend of mom charged

An 8-month-old baby has died after being violently shaken because she wouldn't stop crying, authorities say.

Naiomi Petit-Homme stopped breathing at her home, 1630 55th Ave. Circle E, Bradenton, on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Paramedics rushed her to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where she died Thursday.

Detectives charged Alfredo Hudson, 21, with homicide after they say he admitted he shook the baby. Hudson is the live-in boyfriend of the baby's mother, detectives said.

Hudson told investigators he was taking a shower Wednesday with the baby when he shook the infant about seven times because she would not stop crying, according to a Manatee Sheriff's report.

The infant stopped breathing and began to vomit. Hudson attempted CPR and called out to the girl's mother to call 911, the report said.

Hudson initially told paramedics the child may have drowned at the residence in the 1600 of 55th Avenue Circle East.

The girl was treated at Manatee Memorial Hospital and then transported to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. There, doctors determined she had no brain activity and severe bruising. Petit-Homme died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Hudson, who lived with the mother and child, is in the Manatee County Jail without bond.
