A Tierra Verde physician has pleaded guilty to charges he illegally sold pain pill prescriptions.
Kevin Mark Denny, who also had an office on North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, illegally prescribed oxycodone, hydrocodone and the anti-anxiety drug alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax.
At the time of Denny's arrest in May, a federal prosecutor said Denny was employed by Shiloh Medical Group to work in a "small, one-doctor shop connected to a pharmacy," and was paid to seek patients and write prescriptions. In April alone, Denny wrote $25,000 worth of prescriptions for oxycodone at Grace Pharmacy, she said.
Denny pleaded guilty to two counts of dispensing the drugs outside the scope of the normal practice of medicine. Each count carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
According to his plea agreement, he sold the prescriptions to people with whom he had no doctor-patient relationship without adequate, or any, physical examination or diagnosis.
