Nearly 60 people were arrested Friday night with more to come by Sunday as part of the collaboration between Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and Tampa Police Department.
Dubbed Operation Alliance II, the two branches of law enforcement joined forces to have a presence in high-crime areas, this time targeting a northeastern section of the county. This is the second time the teams came together since June.
"A lot of the offenders we deal with don't recognize jurisdictional boundaries between the city of Tampa and Hillsborough County," said Capt. Donna Lusczynski of the sheriff's office. "So we're coming together to target the same individuals to combat that."
The exercise also allows for law enforcement agencies to work together.
"This helps detectives and deputies get to know each other," Lusczynski said, "so they work better together."
The majority of arrests were for drug-related crimes, Lusczynski said. The joint effort executed warrants, increased patrols and prostitution stings.
