Tampa General Hospital today released its first patient to undergo a triple organ transplant.
The 43-year-old patient received a liver, pancreas and kidney on Nov. 23 with the help of four surgeons. The surgery lasted 23 hours.
"The patient was discharged today and is in good shape," said John Dunn, TGH spokesman. "It was a real team effort because you had to have different surgeons working on multiple organs."
The patient, who is not being indentified, will have a chance to meet the doctors who performed the surgery. TGH - known for performing heart and other major organ transplants - has followed the patient since 2007.
