St. Pete man charged in rape of 15-year-old girl

A 44-year-old man was arrested Sunday in the rape of a 15-year-old girl he met before dawn at a bus stop, St. Petersburg police said.

Anthony Robinson, of St. Petersburg, was charged with committing sexual battery through the use of a deadly weapon. He was being held at the Pinellas County Jail this morning.

The girl was able to identify Robinson in a lineup, police spokesman George Kajtsa said.

The girl had just been thrown out of her house by her legal guardian before she made her way to the bus stop, Kajtsa said. After she returned home from a party at 2 a.m., she told her brothers to get out of her room, where they were playing video games. The legal guardian didn't like the tone the girl took with her brothers, an argument ensued and the legal guardian kicked her out, Kajtsa said.

After the girl left the house, she went to the bus stop at 39th Avenue and Sixth Street South about 5:15 a.m., Kajtsa said. Robinson was in the area riding a bicycle approached her, Kajtsa said. The two talked, with Robinson claiming he could help the girl and that he was an angel, the spokesman said. The girl noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath and called her boyfriend on her cell phone.

After the cell phone call ended, Robinson produced a heavy object the girl thought was a gun, and he told her he would blow her brains out if she didn't do what he wanted, Kajtsa said. He then brought her to a nearby house, raped her and then left, the spokesman said.

Robinson's home address, 245 38th St. S., is not far from the bus stop.
