Officials have identified on Sunday the man who died in a car accident at Fowler Avenue west of U.S. Highway 301 on Saturday afternoon.
Charles Deas, 44, of Lake City, was the driver of a 1994 Dodge Intrepid that was involved in Saturday's accident, the Florida Highway Patrol said. He died at the scene of the 4:48 p.m. accident.
The front passenger in Deas's car was indentified as Shawnee Black, 27, of Lake City. Black is in serious condition at Tampa General Hospital. The rear passenger was identified as Donald Reed, 48, of Tampa, sustained minor injuries and was taken to University Community Hospital.
Deas exited the parking lot of Winn Dixie, 9535 E. Fowler Ave., in an attempt to head west on Fowler Avenue, FHP said.
The Intrepid entered into the path of a 2009 Mercedes traveling east on Fowler Avenue in the left lane, causing the Mercedes to hit the left side of the Intrepid. After colliding, one car ended up in the median and the other ended up on the shoulder, FHP said.
The crash remains under investigation.
