Spring Hill boy, 12, succumbs to injuries

The 12-year-old boy struck by a car along Coronado Drive was pronounced dead this morning, troopers said.

Jason A. Colon was walking along the busy road with Caitlin Denton, 15, shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday when they were hit by a 2006 Honda sedan, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Denton was transported to Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville and was released Thursday morning, a hospital spokesman said.

Colon was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition and later was transported to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, said Sgt. Larry Kraus, a spokesman with FHP.

Colon suffered head trauma, Kraus said. He was pronounced dead shortly after 9:15 a.m. Thursday.

Colon and Denton were walking with the flow of traffic when they were hit, according to FHP.

The Honda was driven by Daniel J. Sirico, 23, of Jacksonville, troopers said. He told authorities he did not see Colon and Denton.

The crash, which is not thought to be alcohol related, remains under investigation, troopers said.
