A 45-year-old woman ran into a school bus with her minivan, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and then tried to kick, bite and head-butt Florida Highway Patrol troopers, authorities say.
Patricia Kluge, of Spring Hill in Hernando County, had a blood alcohol level of 0.242, the highway patrol said. Florida law presumes a person is impaired with a blood alcohol level of 0.08.
This is what happened about 3:30 p.m. today on Mariner Boulevard in Spring Hill, according to the highway patrol:
Kluge was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan north on Mariner Boulevard when she hit the back of a Hernando County school bus driven by Maureen Russell, 63. The front of the minivan slid under the bus, which did not have any students on board.
A passenger on the bus, Rosemarie Geschwindner, 61, was taken to Oak Hill Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries. Russell also received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Kluge was not hurt, but when arrested by troopers, she became combative, highway patrol spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins said in a written statement. She kicked, bit and head-butted two troopers, Gaskins said.
When Kluge was put into the back of a patrol car, she tried to kick the windows out, Gaskins said.
Kluge was charged with DUI, DUI with property damage, DUI causing personal injury, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, driving with a suspended or revoked license and failure to appear on a warrant for a traffic violation.
She was taken to the Hernando County Jail.
