Traffic ticket payment office at Floriland to close

»  Comments | Post a Comment

North Tampa residents who want to pay their traffic tickets in person will have to go downtown starting next month.

Pat Frank, Hillsborough County Clerk of Circuit Court, said she is closing the satellite office at Floriland Business Center, 9309 N. Florida Ave., on July 31. Frank said she can't keep the office open due to layoffs she had to make because of state budget cuts.

"It saddens me to make this announcement, as this office has been a fixture in our community for several years," Frank said in a press release.

Frank said her office has lost one out of eight employees this year, or 12 percent.

"We are no longer in a position to operate as if it is business as usual," Frank said.

Traffic court will continue to be held at the Floriland location.

Tampa residents can pay their tickets downtown, either at the front counter of the Family Law Department on the first floor of the Edgecomb Courthouse, 800 Twiggs St.; or on the first floor of the Old Courthouse, 419 Pierce St.

For residents outside of Tampa, satellite offices are open at the Brandon Regional Service Center, 311 Pauls Drive, Suite 110; SouthShore Regional Service Center, 411 30th St. S.E. in Ruskin; or at the Plant City Courthouse, 301 N. Michigan Ave.

Frank said a new option is for people to pay tickets at any location of Amscot, the check cashing service company. The company only accepts cash and charges a fee of $2.50. None of the fee goes to the clerk's office. Residents must bring their citations to Amscot, and tickets can't be overdue.

Frank said it was best if residents pay their tickets on time through the mail, online at www.hillsclerk.com; or by phone at (813) 276-8100.
