A 61-year-old man, upset over a mix-up in his medication, threatened to blow up a Pinellas County Health and Human Services office on Monday evening, police said.
William Schumate was arrested at his apartment at 345 22nd Ave. S. about 6:15 p.m. Monday, said St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa. He was charged with threatening to discharge a destructive device and was being held at the Pinellas County Jail this morning on $10,000 bail.
Schumate called a Health and Human Services building at 545 First Ave. N. in St. Petersburg shortly after 5:10 p.m. He claimed he was upset because the agency had made a mistake in his painkiller medication, Kajtsa said.
A health case manager for the agency then contacted police, Kajtsa said.
The agency provides health care and other services to disadvantaged Pinellas County residents "to assist them in reaching their maximum potential for self-sufficiency," according to its Web site.
