A 35-year-old Tampa man armed with a gun came into his ex-girlfriend's home and assaulted her, causing head injuries, Hillsborough County deputies say.
The woman is in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital, sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said.
The attack occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday. Deputies arrested William Dixon on Sunday night.
It's unclear why the attack occurred, but "it may have been some type of jealousy situation," Callaway said.
Dixon was charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and armed burglary of a dwelling.
He remains in Orient Road Jail. No bail has been set.
