The estate of a woman killed in April in a 30-minute crash spree filed a lawsuit today against the alleged drunk driver who authorities say caused her death.
The estate of Brittany Marie McFarland, 20, sued Randy Archiquette and his wife Jessica in Hillsborough County Circuit Court seeking unspecified damages in excess of $15,000.
Archiquette, 39, of Riverview, has pleaded not guilty to a series of felony and misdemeanor charges in the deaths of McFarland and Betty Williams, 69, who were killed in a three-car accident on North Florida Avenue near the intersection of Mohawk Avenue.
Authorities said Archiquette was involved in five accidents on April 13 during a 30-minute span along State Road 60 and Florida Avenue.
The lawsuit contends Archiquette was negligent for swerving in front of McFarland's oncoming car, causing her death. The car was registered to his wife, and the lawsuit claims she was negligent for letting her husband drive knowing he lacked sufficient skill and judgment to do it safely.
McFarland is survived by her mother and father and three siblings.
Archiquette has been held without bond since his arrest.
Prosecutors said his blood-alcohol level was .147, above the 0.08 at which state law presumes impairment.
